About Me

Lucas Schaefer is a writer based in Austin.

Lucas’ fiction has appeared in One Story and CRAFT. He has received a fellowship from the Vermont Studio Center, and has been a recent resident at the Wellstone Center in the Redwoods, The Hambidge Center and The Studios of Key West. In March 2019, he was the writer-in-residence at 100W Corsicana, where he was the recipient of a G.W. Jackson Multicultural Society grant, given to artists invested in exploring race in their work.

In addition, Lucas has a decade of experience as an educator, including as a middle school teacher and a creative writing instructor. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the New Writers Project at the University of Texas at Austin and a BA in History from Duke University.

Lucas lives with his husband, Greg, and is currently at work on a novel.
